The upcoming Ford F-150 Lightning isn’t just a huge hit — it’s helping create new American jobs. With reservations for the F-150 Lightning soaring past 160,000 ahead of its spring 2022 launch, Ford is upping production in Michigan with a new investment.
Ford recently launched pre-production on the F-150 Lightning and revealed an additional $250 million in investments across three facilities in Michigan. By pumping more money into Rouge Electric Vehicle Center, Van Dyke Electric Powertrain Center, and Rawsonville Components Plant, Ford will also help create 450 new direct jobs.
The new investment comes after demand for the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning far exceeded even lofty expectations. Ford Motor Company Executive Chair Bill Ford says that the huge response to the F-150 Lightning has “changed the conversation around electric vehicles,” helping make it a more viable option for folks in places like Princeton, West Virginia.
“This truck and the Ford-UAW workers who are assembling it in Michigan have a chance to make history and lead the electric vehicle movement in America,” Ford said in September.
The 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning is a bona fide game-changer, offering incredible long-distance range, fast-charging capabilities, and even the ability to power your home in an outage. Because it’s ultimately a Built Ford Tough® truck, the F-150 Lightning also serves up amazing power — including the fastest 0-60 mph time of any F-150 ever — as well as impressive towing and payload capabilities.
