Even if you don't keep going, you can tell everyone you hiked on one of the most famous trails in North America.
History
The city of Pearisburg is perfect for you if you're a history buff. If you stop at the Andrew Johnston House and Museum you can learn more about the property and visit the Giles County Historical Society. The nearby Pearis Cemetery is less than a mile from the Appalachian Trail. Besides being the resting place of the area's past residents, it's also home to one of Virginia's largest Cucumber Magnolia trees. Closer to the heart of Pearisburg is the Giles County Courthouse, a historic building in its own right and a filming location for the film "Wish You Well."
