Explorer takes every adventure head-on with a grille that's both bold and beautiful. The Explorer Limited grille is designed with a bright silver painted mesh insert with chrome bars.

Seating when you need it

Available third-row PowerFold^® seats make it easy to accommodate both passengers and cargo. With the seats up, the Explorer can carry up to seven passengers. When you don't need seating for seven, fold them down and make room for cargo.

E-Z Entry Second Row

Even with a car seat in place, the adaptable E-Z Entry second-row seating makes for easy entrances and exits. There's no need to get out and help either, your rear seat passengers can navigate their seating arrangement with just the push of a button.

Seats that move to fit you

Multicontour seats with Active Motion^® offer an added dose of comfort to the driver and front passenger. This feature allows you to easily position your seat in order to accommodate your preferences. Additionally, the Active Motion component offers five new massage themes for an isolated back massage that focuses on either the upper back, lower back or the pelvic region. The combination of these amenities help prevent fatigue so you can stay fresh on long drives.

Adaptive LED Lighting

Standard on the Platinum, adaptive headlamps help guide you through the night, adjusting accordingly with your vehicle. When you turn, the lights turn with you, aiding in your visibility around corners and helping you to more quickly react to what's around the bend. And with LED lighting in the front and rear of every Explorer, you get superior light quality wherever you go.

10.1-Inch LCD Capacitive Portrait Touchscreen

An available 10.1-inch LCD capacitive portrait touchscreen means connectivity at your fingertips. Use it just like your smartphone to queue up directions, play music or call your friends, plus much more.

Auto High-Beam Headlamps

With Auto High-Beam Headlamps, unlit roads, dark peripheries and other low-visibility situations don't have to catch you off guard. Auto High-Beam Headlamps can sense poor lighting conditions and switch on to light your path ahead. They can even sense oncoming headlights and dim automatically so you don't have to worry about blinding other drivers. As a result, you can keep your focus - and both hands on the wheel.²

Rear View Camera

Backing up made easy. The Rear View Camera provides a clear view of what's behind your vehicle. It also comes with a built-in washer so you can keep the camera lens free of debris (like snow or dust) and navigate Reverse with confidence.²

BLIS^® (Blind Spot Information System) with Cross-Traffic Alert

BLIS® can help detect and alert you to vehicles in your blind spot, while Cross-Traffic Alert can detect traffic behind you when you're slowly backing out of a parking spot or driveway.²

Automatic Emergency Braking with Pre-Collision Assist (AEB)

This feature scans the road ahead and can alert you to potential collisions with vehicles or pedestrians detected in your path. If an impact becomes imminent and you don't take corrective action, the brakes can apply automatically. But don't worry - they'll only activate if they're needed.²

Lane-Keeping System

Lane-Keeping System can help you stay in your lane, even during a moment of distraction. This smart feature scans your vehicle's position between the lines in the road ahead and can alert you if you're starting to edge out of your lane. Having trouble staying on track? After you've drifted a few times, you'll see a coffee cup icon, letting you know it's time to take a break.³

BLIS^® with available Trailer Coverage

BLIS® with available Trailer Coverage can help ease lane-changing anxiety - even with a trailer in tow. It can alert you not only when a vehicle is spotted in your blind spot but also when one is alongside the trailer.²

Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control

Not only does Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Stop-and-Go help you keep pace on your journey, it can also slow down your vehicle if the traffic ahead has stopped or slowed. As soon as things clear, you'll resume your set speed. And that's not the only way it levels up your cruise control experience. The added Lane Centering feature even scans lane markings to help you keep your vehicle centered between the lines. With speed sign recognition to go along with it, you'll always be up to date with your position on the road.⁴

Evasive Steering Assist

This available feature can help make it easier to avoid a potential collision if there's a slow or stopped vehicle in your path. It doesn't steer for you, but it can provide extra steering support if the system's warning goes off and you need to maneuver around the vehicle ahead.²

Hill Descent Control

Steep hills are often tricky to navigate. Available Hill Descent Control can help make the situation easier - and anxiety-free - by doing just what its name says. It helps you maintain a set speed when you're driving down an incline, by automatically applying the brake when needed.²

SYNC^® 3

SYNC^® 3 is our easy-to-use, responsive voice-activated technology. Experience the available 10.1-inch touchscreen with impressive responsiveness. You'll also find a sleek user-friendly interface with split-screen capability to help you easily connect to and control your smartphone.⁸  SYNC^® 3 also brings the power of Apple CarPlay^{® 9} and Android Auto^™ compatibility to your Ford.⁹

FordPass Connect^™ with 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot

With FordPass Connect^™, drivers and passengers can enjoy an in-vehicle Wi-Fi hotspot. It features a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, powered by AT&T. Up to 10 devices can connect at once, and you can use FordPass^™ to keep track of your Wi-Fi data usage. Also, you can access the hotspot from up to fifty feet outside the vehicle.

Available Wireless Charging^*

The days of taking turns to charge devices are over. Explorer offers up to nine different powerpoints, including USBs, USCs, 12V, 110V and regular plugs-which means plenty of power for every passenger. You can also charge cord-free with the available wireless charging pad found in the center console.

Ford and WAZE

Using Waze inside your Ford vehicle is now easier since the much-loved, crowd-sourced navigation and traffic app is compatible with available SYNC^® 3 AppLink^®. You can collaborate with other users, outsmarting traffic by sharing information to get the best routes, and receive real-time alerts about accidents, road hazards and traffic jams. Moving Waze from your phone to the vehicle's touchscreen allows you to conveniently access the app's features on a larger display. You can also operate Waze with voice commands for hands-free control, helping to keep your eyes on the road.² Available via iPhone^® and on Android Auto^™.

Ford+ALEXA

Ford+Alexa bring the amazing capabilities of Amazon Alexa from your home to the road. By using the Ford+Alexa app and connecting via available SYNC^® 3 AppLink^®, you'll have access to voice navigation, traffic information, Amazon Prime shopping and can even control your supported smart-home devices. Stay connected, from just about anywhere.²

Park with push of a button

Available Active Park Assist 2.0 makes it easy to nail an impressive park, time after time - even in tight parallel or perpendicular spots. With the push of a button, it will detect an appropriate parking spot and let you know when to stop and put the car in neutral. Once you're there, all you have to do is hold the Active Park Assist button for the duration of the park and the system does the rest.* This feature also offers park out assist with side-sensing capability so you can confidently navigate out of a spot when someone's parked too close to you.²

It gives you the tools to take on any adventure with a number of features that make it easier to do more, like available Michelin^® self-sealing tires, extra cargo space and a B&O^™ Sound System by Bang & Olufsen.

Available Hands-Free, Foot-Activated Liftgate

With the available Intelligent Access key in your pocket or purse, just give a little kick under the rear bumper and the hands-free, foot-activated liftgate automatically opens - making it easier to load and unload cargo. You can also adjust the liftgate height, which is helpful for lower overhangs.

50/50 Fold-Flat Rear Seat Backs

Perfect for those weekend getaways, the second and third-row seats fold flat either manually or automatically with the available PowerFold® feature. With adaptable bucket seats and 40/20/40 bench seats, you can always make room for your gear.

Cargo Management System

Extra pockets on the side and a storage area underneath the floor provide you with a place to store those smaller items that you thought you were going to have to leave behind. And when necessary, you can flip over the reversible load floor for plastic bedding, saving the carpet from wet or muddy cargo. Standard with the Class III Trailer Tow package.

B&O^™ Sound System by Bang & Olufsen

Enjoy the ride with the B&O^™ Sound System by Bang & Olufsen. With this standard 12-speaker system you can get off to an exciting start, appease a car full of kids or simply wind down with your favorite tunes at the end of a long day. If you want to turn it up a notch, there's also the option of a booming 980 watt, 14-speaker system, available with the Premium Technology Package.

360-Degree Camera

The available 360-degree camera with split-view² display uses four cameras (one in the grille, liftgate, and under each of the sideview mirrors) enabling you to see all sides of the vehicle on the center screen. It's especially useful when maneuvering in tight spaces or on trails. The camera system includes front and rear washers to maximize visibility.

Tri-Zone Climate Control

Tri-zone climate control lets you personalize the comfort level for you and your passengers with individualized temperature settings. Separate climate zones for the driver and front passenger plus one for the back-seat passengers create a cozy ride for everyone inside.

Michelin^® SELF-SEALING TIRES

Available self-sealing tires are a special type of tire that have a material on the inside of the tire that can seal punctures up to 6mm (1/4 inch) in diameter in the tread area.

New Rear-Wheel Drive

The 2020 Explorer comes equipped with all-new RWD to maximize performance and design. Rear-wheel-drive architecture enables a sportier, more athletic design, improved on- and off-road capability and 600 pounds more in maximum towing capacity when properly equipped.

Intelligent 4WD with Terrain Management System^™

The all-new Terrain Management System can help tackle any adventure with up to seven Selectable Drive Modes through a single easy-to-use dial in the center console. This includes normal, trail, deep snow/sand, slippery, sport, tow/haul and new eco mode that each come with special 3D animated graphics in the new available 12.3-inch digital cluster. And with Intelligent 4WD, there's also the added benefit of enhanced control on your day-to-day commute, especially when conditions are rough.

10-Speed Transmission

The new 10-speed transmission makes transitioning between speeds a more efficient process, ensuring smooth upshifts and downshifts. Compared to 6-speed, the 10-speed delivers improved overall performance, with enhanced acceleration at the low and mid ranges of the power band.

Towing and Trailer Sway Control

Building on AdvanceTrac^® with Roll Stability Control^™, the standard trailer sway control selectively brakes and adjusts engine power to maintain trailer control^5. The result is stability and control, even when towing large loads. When properly equipped, the Explorer can tow up to 5,600 lbs. The Class III Trailer Tow Package is available with the 2.3L EcoBoost^® and 3.3L hybrid engines, and comes standard with the 3.0L EcoBoost^® engine.

Post-Collision Braking

Post-Collision Braking, standard on all series, can potentially lessen the severity of a secondary collision by automatically applying moderate brake pressure when an initial collision is detected in an attempt to slow down the vehicle and potentially lessen injury to occupants and damage to the vehicle.²

Available Reverse Brake Assist

With increasing audio and visual warnings, reverse brake assist helps alert you to any objects you may be missing while slowly backing up. The system can detect both stationary and moving objects, including people and vehicles behind the SUV, and can even apply the brakes to help prevent a collision.²

Sidewind Stabilization

Sidewind stabilization can help counteract heavy wind conditions, helping stabilize the vehicle in situations where you are likely to encounter heavy gusts of wind. This system keeps you from having to fight the wind and put in extra effort when overtaking large trucks, crossing a bridge or simply driving on the open road.⁶

Awe-inspiring power

As the backbone of the ST and Platinum powertrains, the available 3.0L EcoBoost® V6 engine takes the athletic feel of Explorer a step further. With a 10-speed automatic transmission, twin turbos and direct injection, the Platinum powertrain generates 365 horsepower plus 380 lb.-ft of torque.* The ST takes this muscular engine with twin turbos and combines it with a 10-speed automatic transmission for a powertrain like nothing before it. With 400 horsepower plus 415 lb.-ft. of torque* and a top speed of 143 mph, the 2020 ST is the most powerful Explorer ever.
